WIWW: Fall, briefly

It’s finally cool enough to wear jeans and closed-toe shoes! And there was much rejoicing!

I apologize for the iPhone shot. It’s the thought that counts?

Since I’m nursing Hazel, my pre-pregnancy size-medium shirts do not accommodate my (frankly incredible) rack. So, to stretch my postpartum short-sleeve and sleeveless shirts into fall, I am adding cardigans and scarves and whatnot.

The navy tee was bought this summer. Everything else is at least a few years old.

WIWW: Snowpocalypse, Florida Style

There is a teeny, tiny, little chance that it MIGHT snow here today. It hasn’t snowed in Tallahassee since 1989.

Needless to say, everyone is at DEFCON-2 about it. Schools and day cares are closed, creating a massive headache for desk jockeys like myself. I think, at best, we’ll get some wintry mix (the most nefarious of all precipitation) this afternoon.

So what’s a girl to wear?IMG_8627

Blazer: Goodwill
Sweater: Hand-me-down
Jeans: Loft Maternity
Boots: Boston Terrier
No, the OTHER boots: L.L. Bean, circa 1998

I made the discovery this morning that I can no longer zip up my rain jacket. Sigh.

Here’s another outfit from earlier this week:

Dress: Zulily
Cardigan: Old Navy
Boots: Zappos
24: Weeks down

I am completely in love with this dress.

Have a lovely week, and stay warm out there!

Gratitude: WIWW, November 20, 2013

It’s been a while since I posted a What I Wore Wednesday, but I’m still grateful for it. Not only did it get me out of a clothes rut and make me examine (sometimes painfully!) what did and did not look good on me, it gives me ideas every week for new ways to wear things.

Anyway, here’s me today:

Shirt: Hand-me-down
Jeans: Loft
Scarf: Gift
Earrings: World Market
Shoes: Clarks

I even did something fancy with my hair! I’m currently having a debate with my head – if I can find attractive, interesting things to do with my shoulder-length hair, I can keep it. Otherwise, we’re hopping a train to Pixietown.

Have a lovely week!

That’s right, I’m giving up and just calling it “What I Wore (With My Maxi Skirt) Wednesday.”

It’s still hot here. Like, over 90 degrees every day hot. My soul thirsts for corduroys and suede, but cannot be satisfied. I take refuge in my maxi skirt.

Did I mention that my office is pretty casual?

And just to prove that I don’t wear this skirt every day (or even every week!), here’s what I wore on Monday:

Oh, hi there.

Have a lovely week!

WIWW: Pumpkin Spice

And behold, the pumpkin spice coffee was displayed prominently, and the people knew it was fall, and there was much rejoicing.

This has been a hard week. More on that tomorrow.

This outfit is so delightfully fall-ish, though, I can hardly stand it. I did not embrace orange (or pink, for that matter) until I was a grown-up person, but now I am like a moth to an orange flame.

I started simple – Ann Taylor trouser jeans (you can tell they’re old because they’re boot cut, heh) and a white v-neck tee. Then I added a chartreuse belt that came with a pair of Target pants once upon a time. Next came a paprika-colored suede blazer that I picked up at Goodwill on Labor day for $5.00. And lastly, a pretty infinity scarf I got this weekend in Northampton, MA, when I was visiting The Great White North for a friend’s wedding.

Oh, and sandals, because it’s still 90+ every day here.

Have a lovely week!

WIWW: Tilt and Squint

OH HI. ME AGAIN.

pleated poppy

I guess I work in a weird office. When I use my beloved Pinterest to search for work attire inspiration, I get a lot of this:

(I also get a lot of results that are ridiculous and only appropriate for work if your “office” has a red light out front and/or a pole inside. Anyway.)

Don’t get me wrong. These are all lovely. But not even the attorneys at my office dress this nicely.

At the other end of the Pinterest clothing spectrum, it seems, are Outfits with Jeans – clothes that would be cute and appropriate for my office, were it not for our no-jeans policy.

I especially like the jeans+tee+statement necklace look for days when I’m lazy, er, tired. So I tried simply swapping black pants for the jeans:

Amazing. It worked. I’m like some kind of magician.

I looooove this necklace, which I rescued from Loft on sale. Wasn’t that generous of me?

Have a lovely week.

WIWW: Springy

I think we’re pretty firmly in “spring” territory down here. This weekend I packed up my heated mattress pad (which, honestly, is one of the best things I’ve ever bought. Takes the chill right out of the bed in the winter. I turn it on about 5 minutes before bedtime, and turn it off when I crawl in. Heaven.).

Wednesday: My hair is not, in reality, massively uneven. Honest.

This falls squarely in the category of Good Work Outfit – nothing terribly exciting, but it’s clean and doesn’t itch. Moving on.

IMG_7379

Thursday: Better work outfit! I paired my knit blazer with my favorite summer dress. It was knitastic.

IMG_7380

Friday: Fun with Scarves. I love this scarf, but it’s enormously fluffy. When I try to wear it infinity-style, it looks like I’m being eaten. Or birthed. Either way, it’s not good. Tying it at the bottom weighs it down and tames it.

IMG_7382

Sunday I did something completely daring. I wore a hat IN PUBLIC. And by “in public” I mean “to Lowe’s.” I love hats, but lack the courage of my convictions to wear them. But they’re so useful (see how my eyes are shaded? Genius!), and cute.

IMG_7404

And back to work on Monday. I love this shirt, because it’s colorful and light and screams SPRING, but I hate it because I have to iron it every time I wear it. Lame.

Have a lovely week!
